HIHI: Huntington Interfaith Homeless Initiative
The HIHI is made up from many support congregations in the Huntington area.
They include Lutheran, Presbyterian, Jewish, United Methodist, Congregational, Christ Church, Episcopal, Catholic, and many smaller church groups. Besides feeding the Homeless, this group of churches and temples, let’s the Homeless people sleep overnight, and then serves them breakfast and brings them back to where they stay. Coach Rule and Greg Barber help serve at these meals. The churches and temples rotate where the evenings occur. See the respite sites below.
OUR Mission: To collaborate with members of our religious community in a grassroots effort to ensure that homeless men and women of Huntington Township have a night’s respite during the coldest winter months.
Who Is Eligible For Our Services: Any person who needs a warm bed is eligible to stay overnight at our sites.
Our Values: We believe that a warm place and a hot meal during the winter months is a right. Our responsibility to our community and faiths compel us to ensure that these forgotten men and women receive services. All people deserve dignity, respect, compassion and empathy.
How Can You Help:
You can help with Fund Raising, Food, and Clothing. You can help us serve the meals, and we need overnight hosts. Contact Greg Barber at 973 224 1132.
