We had a great Thanksgiving Food drive. Special thanks to Michael Coffey and Tom Diblasi. Neil is happy we are raising so much food.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!

Picture
Tom DiBlasi NW outdid himself again for the amount of food he raised for NeilsWheels and for The Gerald Ryan Outreach. It took 8 people 30 minutes to move his 29 Shopping Carts of food into our truck.

Thanks go to Eileen Symmons from St Marys Church who introduced me to Tom 5 years ago, and to the Merrick Fire Department, for helping Tom raise this huge donation, and to Tom's family who helped so much. Also, to Chris and Junior, our truck drivers, who spent 5 hours on this pickup and delivery back to the Pantry.

My initial reaction to seeing the food spread out over every inch of their den is something I will never forget. This made my year, and reinforces why I love to help Hungry Families on LI.

Happy Thanksgiving to hundreds of families that will receive this haul from

one terrific family.

AmericanTown's Heros: Neil Barber is a Hero to Many Families

"Families, teams and communities are very much alike. They all involve people banding together with common goals of support and success. This hero story is about a member of a family and a team and a community and how they all come together. Neil Barber was "thrown a curve ball," as his father says. At the age of 16 and a rising lacrosse star, he became mentally challenged and was eventually diagnosed and hospitalized for Schizophrenia. Barber's family was there for him, as were his friends and teammates".

Our team, "Neil's Wheels" joined forces with the Port Washington team, "Student Voices Loud & Proud" in the annual NAMI WALK to raise money needed to educate all of us on how we can help the 25% of our population that suffer from some form of Brain Disorders. Over $200,000 was raised on a beautiful day at Jones Beach.

We collected well over 600 cans of food at the final barbecue/dance at Manhasset Middle School. In a driving rainstorm, 290 kids showed up and several students made jewelry for Neil's Wheels and they brought in $63 which will mean approx. 63 more cans of food.

We have donated over 40,000 cans so far!!!!!
